Abstract<\/h2>\n

Objective<\/strong>: To find out whether the production of steroid hormones by the adrenal glands increases as a result of performing physical exercises, namely, performing Bhujangasana.<\/p>\n

Methods and participants: <\/strong>The study involved 9 women in the perimenopausal period who met the inclusion criteria. The assessment was made using the Green scale for the severity of
\nclimacteric syndrome and a blood test for the level of the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S). For 30 days, each subject performed a daily set of yoga asanas: Bhujangasana and Shashankasana. The results before and after the test were compared and analyzed. Result: As a result of the study, the data on the Green scale increased, indicating an improvement in the subjects’ well-being. Statistical significance was assessed using the Mann-Whitney U-test. The obtained values were in the significance zone. The level of the DHEA-S hormone in the participants’ blood before and after the study changed: in three participants it increased, and in six it decreased. These values were in the insignificance zone. To determine whether there is a correlation between the level of DHEA-S and the degree of manifestation of climacteric syndrome, the Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used, which showed that the correlation between the Green scale indicators and the level of DHEA-S in the blood is statistically insignificant. Despite the improvement of the Green climacteric scale, their values do not correlate with changes in the DHEA-S level.<\/p>\n

Results:<\/strong> Bhujangasana, as one of the yoga asanas, improves the well-being of women in the perimenopausal period and reduces the severity of climacteric syndrome. Changes in the level of the DHEA-S hormone due to the performance of Bhujangasana were multidirectional. No relationship was found between the well-being of women in the perimenopausal period performing Bhujangasana and the level of the DHEA-S hormone in the blood. There is no reason to believe that positive results in the form of changes in well-being in climacteric syndrome are a consequence of the adrenal synthesis of sex hormones.<\/p>\n
